The indication 720 ml refers to the capacity (also called nominal volume or volume) of the glass used. On our label, it states 670 g filling quantity as well as 360 g drained weight.
The filling quantity is the total amount contained in the glass, i.e., cucumbers, herbs, spices, and brine.
The drained weight is only the cucumbers remaining after pouring off the liquid. This information is of interest to consumers because usually the cucumbers are consumed, not the brine or the spices.
The drained weight is determined under precisely specified conditions – including temperature, mesh size of the sieve, and duration of draining. Therefore, small differences may occur when determining the drained weight at home compared to the drained weight determined in the laboratory.
Why advertising brochures from retailers often only mention the capacity of the jars and omit the indication of filling quantity and drained weight is unknown to us. This is the responsibility of the retailers.
