In general, the best-before date (BBD) refers to the unopened product. How long a product remains good after opening cannot be answered universally. There are many factors that can influence spoilage. As you know from other foods (such as jam, meat, sausage, cheese, etc.), it is advisable to store them in the refrigerator after opening. The same applies to our products, as refrigeration after opening significantly extends the shelf life until spoilage. However, even with proper refrigeration, microorganisms from the air or used utensils can enter the product and grow there. Whether and how quickly this leads to spoilage depends on the food and the respective germs. We recommend paying attention to the various signs of spoilage: • Is there mold growth? (spots on the product surface, on the jar, or on the lid) • Are there bulges? (upward bulging lid, foaming when opened) • Has the smell changed significantly? (rotten, musty odor) If you notice one or more of these signs in your product, we advise against consumption. Signs such as off-flavor, liquid separation, dried product residues, or decreasing spiciness are not indications of a spoiled product; further consumption is safe and depends on your personal perception.
